Palmer Gulch KOA (Day 7)

We spent the day today relaxing and enjoying the campground. To begin with, we slept in!! We definitely all needed that! The girls did a lot of swimming. Boys played a lot of basketball (imagine that!) There's also a large water slide here separate of the pool and all the kids (and even Sean) enjoyed that! I got to do some laundry...yay. But it was definitely needed, so I'm thankful we had the option. We've packed super light for this trip so laundry every 3-4 days is necessary.

The girls got to rock climb--a new favorite of Avalynn's. She made it all the way to the top of this one!! That girl is a monkey!

Jacob and Caed decided later in the day to rent 4 wheeled bikes to explore the campground with. They had fun, although they weren't as thrilled to find they were really only supposed to have them on the bike paths and not the open roadways--which was difficult because other people were walking the bike trails and their bikes would take up the whole bike path. Oh well--they enjoyed it regardless.

Then we spent some time eating dinner and smores around the firepit and just generally hanging out. It was a much needed respite from hiking and venturing out like we've been doing most days. Sean and I walked to the little grocery store on site to grab some items for lunch the next day and ended up stopping in the coffee/wine place. It was great! They had punch cards for 5 wine samples for just $2! So we enjoyed a little adult time and even made some new friends.

However, the evening came to an abrupt close when the oldest managed to get enough service in the cabin to call us and question where we were and if we were ok and why we'd been gone for so long for such a short trip!! LOL. Needless to say we headed back to the cabin and called it a night!

Tomorrow, a short drive to Mount Rushmore followed by a stop at a local place called Hippie Hole where we'll hike out a bit to a fresh water swimming hole!
